We were saddened to learn of the passing of Bob Weir on January 10th. Bobby, as his friends knew him, was a co-founder of the Grateful Dead and one of the most generous spirits in American music. For more than 60 years, he took to the road, bringing people together through the sheer power of showing up and playing.

As Wavy Gravy turns 90 in May, we’re not just marking the years; we’re celebrating a whole vibration. A co-founder of Seva and a true cosmic jester of compassion, Wavy has always shown us that service isn’t a duty, it’s a dance.
Continue readingSome people follow a path. Anthony Ferraro builds his own and invites the world to keep up.
Born with Leber Congenital Amaurosis, Anthony lost his sight over time, but never his drive. He rose as a champion wrestler, Paralympic judo athlete, and a magnetic motivational speaker. He even busked 10,000 miles across America, performing for strangers who quickly became fans. Now a full-time content creator, Anthony offers an authentic look into how he navigates daily life, cares for his family, and uses his platform to advocate for greater access to eye care.
Anthony’s journey is proof of what determination can achieve, and we’re grateful to have his heart and hustle behind our mission. Watch our interview video above to learn his whole story and connect with Anthony at asfvision.com or follow him on Instagram, TikTok, or Facebook.

In a recent tribute, SF Gate contributor Nicholas G. Meriwether wrote: “The Grateful Dead folk motif describes the obligation the living owe the dead, a belief found in cultures around the world. It tells us that when we honor that obligation, we will be repaid in ways we cannot anticipate or imagine. An ancient expression of faith, it urges us to embrace life as a continuum – one that includes those who have passed on and who rely on the living to steward their legacy.”

With headliners that included Lucinda Williams and Seth MacFarlane as host, San Francisco’s August Hall lived up to its name when Larry Brilliant’s 80th birthday celebration rolled onto its stage on August 24.
Along with BFF Wavy Gravy and his wife Jahanara Romney, Larry and Girija Brilliant, and a few hundred friends and colleagues filled the venue with what can only be described as love. Jai and Ezra Uttal, Krishna Das, and Salman Ahmed spun their special magic as they strummed and sang. Seth MacFarlane crooned songbook favorites and made the entire house – performers and audience – feel like part of the Seva community.

In late February, Indian-American singing group Soor Aur Saptak (SAS) held its eleventh annual musical benefit in Portland, Oregon. The theme of this year’s benefit was “Your melody matches mine,” and rightly so. It was a captivating night of Bollywood music, dancing, and singing – all while raising funds to provide eye care for children in India.
Sandhiprakash Bhide, Founder of Soor Aur Saptak, shared, “we cannot believe it has been 11 years since we started this program back in 2012. This would not have been possible without the generous Portland community and now the world community because of our online program.”
