A world free from avoidable blindness requires bold ambition, meaningful partnerships, and global action. Seva Foundation is proud to support that goal, stepping forward with a commitment to reach 50 million people with essential eye care by 2030.

This commitment is part of the inaugural Global Summit for Eye Health, a landmark gathering hosted by the Government of Antigua and Barbuda, co-hosted by Bangladesh, Nigeria, and Guyana, and coordinated with the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB). Bringing together governments, health ministers, investors, and organizations across the global health community, the Summit is focused on building the momentum needed to address avoidable sight loss affecting over 1 billion people worldwide.

As a High Impact Partner, Seva brings decades of experience building locally led, sustainable eye care systems to this critical global effort, helping turn shared ambition into measurable progress.

Read Seva’s commitment and the outcomes we aim to achieve below:

50 million people. 5 million surgeries. 10 million pairs of glasses. By 2030.

That’s the next chapter for Seva Foundation, building on nearly five decades of making quality eye care accessible to communities around the world.

Since 1978, we have built locally led, financially sustainable eye care systems with 150 partners in 25+ countries. Our partners don’t depend on us; they grow with us. The economics are unparalleled: every $1 invested in eye care returns $36 in benefits. That return holds because our community-owned solutions continue to deliver long after the initial investment.

For investors, this is a proven, scalable return on impact. For governments, it’s a ready-made system: trained workforces, working hospitals, and data that meets WHO standards.

By 2030, Seva and our partner network commit to:

  • Reach 50 million people with essential eye care, including 5 million surgeries and 10 million pairs of glasses.
  • Screen 5 million children, delivering 200,000 pairs of glasses and 50,000 pediatric surgeries.
  • Open 200 Primary Eye Care Vision Centers, bringing care within reach of 22 million people.
  • Train 25,000 eye health professionals, at least half of them women, building health system capacity and advancing gender equity.
  • Collect visual acuity data in line with WHO guidance, advancing the SPECS and SEE Initiatives and strengthening evidence for policy and investment.
  • Conduct field trials across South Asia, Africa, and Latin America to expand evidence on the health, livelihoods, and economic impacts of eye care.

No one should lose their sight because of where they were born or what they can afford. We know how to end preventable blindness. We have a plan and we’re ready to do it at an even greater scale. Email seva2030@seva.org to explore how we can work together.
