We’re always on the hunt for the greatest eye care inventions. Last year, Seva announced a Call for Ideas to identify innovative technology-based solutions to improve eye care delivery. We wanted to give you the opportunity to check in on The University of Washington (UW) at Bothell that has been working on the development of an EYE Toolbox, a cloud-based package of software. It provides secure and effective training, helps coordinate electronic medical records, facilitates collaboration between eye clinics, and allows for remote treatment interventions.
In plain English, this means that the EYE Toolbox makes it much easier for optometrists and ophthalmologists to keep track of, and care for, their patient’s needs. When completed, UW Bothell projects that, over the span of two years, their app will empower eye doctors to remotely diagnose and treat thousands of more people than they previously would have been able, including hundreds of children.
“Most vision interventions that require regular practice at home by patients and/or their parents need to be nurtured and coached for best compliance and results,” shares the UW team. The EYE Toolbox provides a portal to support the clinic to home connection and coaching, as well as deliver critical patient education and treatment software apps directly to patients and their caregivers. Our collaboration with Seva has been vital to the improvement of the EYE Toolbox software’s security and efficiency so it can be ready for greater distribution around the world to help more providers get better treatment outcomes.
This is the power of technology in service of compassion!
