This winter, Dr. Natchiar, a founder of Aravind Eye Hospital and a member of Seva’s partnerships in India, was bestowed the prestigious Padma Shri Award 2024 for distinguished contribution and service in the field of medicine.
Dr. G Natchiar’s work has embodied Seva’s commitment to equitable service, most notably through her ophthalmic paramedical program. For more than 40 years, this program has empowered young women from rural backgrounds, training them to become world-class eye care professionals. A neuro-ophthalmologist by training, Dr. Natchiar spearheaded the extensive community outreach program and scaling of innovative service delivery models for rural populations.
