May is Healthy Vision Month. May 10 is Mother’s Day. This is what it looks like to protect a child’s future.

If you have children, or have ever been around a one-year-old, you know they are into everything. It is the age of eager discovery; of reaching, crawling, and finally finding your feet.

Sahil is no different. He has that same drive to explore, but for the first year of his life, he just couldn’t see the way forward.

When his mother called his name, Sahil would turn and walk in the opposite direction. He could hear her, but he couldn’t find her. He would reach for his toys, only to find empty air. While other children his age were busy discovering the world, Sahil was stuck in a world of shadows, unable to claim the life waiting for him.

Because of supporters like you, Sahil was diagnosed and treated for congenital cataracts at our partner hospital in India. The barriers are gone. His life has finally begun.

Today, Sahil is finally doing what a kid is meant to do. He’s sprinting in the playground, chasing friends, and for the first time, running straight into his mother’s arms. As we celebrate Mother’s Day, I am thinking of the incredible relief Sahil’s mother feels today, and the generosity of the Seva family that made this possible.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms and mom figures in our community!

With gratitude,
