“The cows, the house, my children—I can see everything. I am so happy.”
Lemda’s smile says it all. At 52, the Tanzanian mother and cattle keeper is seeing the world again.
Not that long ago, she was completely blind. Her vision had slipped away over the course of a year, until daily life became impossible. Widowed and raising her family alone in rural Tanzania, Lemda could no longer tend the cattle or care for her home.
“I couldn’t do anything,” she says.
But her daughter, Regina, refused to give up hope. When she heard about a Seva-supported eye care outreach happening in Singida, she brought her mother from Morogoro—314 miles away—for a chance at restored sight.
That chance paid off.
Thanks to a simple cataract surgery, Lemda’s vision—and independence—came rushing back.
“My life will be good now because my mother can see again,” Regina says. “She can do everything she needs to do. I thank God—and I thank this program.”
The transformation was immediate and deeply felt. Lemda lights up talking about it. Regina’s voice fills with gratitude: “I’m so thankful to the donors who make this possible. I pray this program continues—so many others can be helped.”
Because of you, Lemda’s life is full of light, color, and purpose again. Her story is just one of many—but the joy? That’s unforgettable.
