Seva partners are ready to see you and your siblings now.

Children inherit many traits – green eyes, curly hair, athletic ability. They can also share vision problems. If one sibling needs glasses due to issues like nearsightedness or cataracts, the others may too.

That’s why Seva’s partners in Tamil Nadu, India, launched the sibling screening program from April 2021 to December 2024. When a child was diagnosed with a refractive error, cataract, glaucoma, or other eye issues during a screening, the project coordinator would note if they had siblings. If the siblings were present, they received an on-the-spot screening. If not, they were invited to come to the clinic within a month for their screening. Glasses were provided free of charge, and children needing surgery received the required care.

This program involved training medical personnel, developing a robust screening protocol, integrating patient management software, and enhancing telemedicine services – all while upgrading vision centers. By the end of the project, over 12,000 siblings were screened, 235 surgeries were performed, 331 kids were provided vision therapy, and 1,075 pairs of glasses were provided.

As access to eye care becomes more widespread, children can look forward to brighter, clearer futures – quickly and affordably, thanks to your support.
