The Art of Seeing

To sew is to imagine what could be – how vibrant green cotton and purple thread might come together to create something beautiful. For Sebastiani Ramos Quilaja, a warm-hearted K’iche’ woman with a gift for sewing, it was a way to tell stories, preserve her Guatemalan tradition, and bring joy.

As cataracts clouded her vision, Sebastiana’s once-sure hands began to falter, and the intricate beauty of her work faded. Her impaired sight also kept her from fully embracing the joy of raising her granddaughter. She couldn’t take her outside to play or fully savor the simple moments that fill a grandmother’s heart.

With the support of our donors, Seva was able to provide Sebastiana with a transformative corrective surgery to restore her sight. Her world, once clouded with uncertainty, is now filled with her granddaughter’s radiant smile and the opportunity to return to her beloved craft.

Seva supporters are like skilled artists, too. They have the vision to see what’s possible when compassion and generosity come together – and they trust in that vision. With your support, this life-changing magic becomes a reality for thousands across the globe every day.
